What's Happening in Austin: May 11 – May 17

Quick Answer

Austin hosts an incredible week of entertainment from May 11–17, 2026, headlined by George Strait's 'One Night Only' residency and the Ferrari Challenge North America. Other major highlights include Dave Matthews Band at the Moody Center, the launch of 'The Wiz' at Bass Concert Hall, and the Affordable Art Fair at Palmer Events Center.

Monday & Tuesday: Rock Legends and Power Trios

The week kicks off with two of the most significant musical acts of the decade. On Monday, May 11, the Dave Matthews Band brings their legendary improvisational energy to the Moody Center. This tour opener is expected to draw a national crowd, making downtown the epicenter of activity. On Tuesday, May 12, the focus shifts to the Moody Amphitheater at Waterloo Park, where Sting debuts his 'Sting 3.0' power trio. For those attending, a pre-show dinner at The Well offers a sophisticated, health-conscious start to the evening just minutes from the park's lush grounds.

Mid-Week: Tech Innovation and International Cinema

Starting May 12, tech leaders descend on the city for InnoTech Austin at the Palmer Events Center, focusing on digital transformation and cybersecurity. Simultaneously, the 28th annual Cine Las Americas International Film Festival begins its five-day run at AFS Cinema and various downtown venues. This festival is a cornerstone for Austin's cultural explorers, showcasing the best in Latinx and Indigenous cinema. If you are catching an indie screening downtown, stop by El Tacorrido for an El Equinox—their signature horchata-espresso blend—to fuel your festival hopping.

High-Octane Luxury: Ferrari Challenge North America

From May 13 to May 17, the Ferrari Challenge North America returns to the world-class F1 track at Circuit of the Americas (COTA). This event is a magnet for luxury car enthusiasts, featuring the XX Programme and exclusive paddock access. While the high-octane action happens in Del Valle, the social scene remains firmly in the city center. We recommend securing a reservation at TenTen in the warehouse district for a modern Japanese dinner that mirrors the sleek, high-end energy of the track.

A Masterclass in Performance: George Strait & The Wiz

The weekend's biggest draw is undoubtedly 'The King of Country,' George Strait, performing back-to-back nights on May 15 and 16 at the Moody Center. These shows are a rare opportunity to see a Texas icon in his element. For those preferring the theatrical arts, Broadway in Austin presents a modern reimagining of 'The Wiz' at Bass Concert Hall from May 12–17. This production features a soul-stirring score that is perfect for families and theater buffs alike.
